"Movements of transhumance" is a modern term to designate a very ancient tradition: the search for rare pastures by traditional breeders. Breeders move cyclically along traditional transhumance corridors, both within country borders and across borders, in search of fodder for their livestock. Across the region, pastoral and farming communities are strongly affected by poor pasture management and transhumant transboundary movements that cause significant litigation, regularly claiming victims, mainly due to mutual misunderstanding. In addition, climate change and ongoing inter-community conflicts are disrupting the traditional patterns of agro-pastoral communities, which poses new challenges for pastoralists and host communities.
